Earl and Laurie (me) met through an ad he placed in BBW City personals. I answered the ad because he liked mint chocolate chip ice-cream which is my favorite. A strange reason to answer an ad but I was almost cosmically compelled to do so espcially since I had recently divorced. And it had been a very, very bad marriage. In fact, I had all but decided to find myself a good woman and to heck with men!!! Several days later Earl answered my e-mail. Come to find out, we moved to the same very small town in upstate South Carolina during the same year 1989.
We frequented many of the same places and even ran in the same political circles and knew the same people. We had even attended the same fundraising barbeque for our favorite candidate in 1992 and probably shook hands in a receiving line. Several days later we spoke by phone and then within two weeks he showed up in the lowcountry where I moved back to after my divorce. The even stranger twist is that we are from the same area in the lowcountry of South Carolina! And our divorces were final within a day of one another! I think the stars lead us to meet last August, 1997. If we had met in 1989 it would have never worked because he was 19 and I was 26. We were both at the beginning of the worst realtionships of our lives and I think traveling that path molded us into the individuals we are today.
Through that learning process we can appreciate one another in a way we never could have before our trials and tribulations. On Nov. 1, 1997 Earl asked me to marry him after only a few short months of dating.
At age 27 and 34, Feb. 21, 1998, we married in a small church on James Island, South Carolina, in the lowcountry where we grew up.
We expect our first baby, Bonnie, in Oct.1998. He has three daughters and I have one. Now we have a very large, boisterous and happy family.
Thank you BBWCity for helping Earl and I connect after tip-toeing around one another for years!
